SFJ, an acronym used frequently by blogger and cultural critic Sasha Frere-Jones, spells his name strictly by coincidence. It actually stands for Several Funky Jews, a reference to Frere-Jones' high school ska band in which he played alto sax and sang backup vocals. They released one 7", Pick It Up, Pick It Up, Pick It Up (Before Sundown!) on now-defunct Moon Ska Records before disbanding in 1987.
